Annual Dinner

As a Communications Intern, I was in charge of producing all graphic materials for the Chamber. Every year, I was tasked with creating the branding and materials for the San Luis Obispo Chamber’s Annual Dinner. One of my favorite years was in 2020 for the 115th Annual Dinner, which honored the outgoing Board Chair Clint Pearce. I started brainstorming how to pull Clint’s persona into the event theme.

  • All design aspects, from invitations to decor, were an ode to his passion for western horseback riding, with an added level of sophistication for the black tie event. After creating a mood board and going through different design iterations, the theme of “Rhinestone Cowboy” was established.

    • All design aspects, from invitations to decor, were an ode to his passion for western horseback riding, with an added level of sophistication for the black tie event.

    • Developed a cohesive event branding system inspired by the honoree’s personal interests, merging Western motifs with elegant black-tie aesthetics.

    • Designed invitations, signage, and décor that reinforced the theme and elevated the event experience for attendees.

    • Delivered a cohesive event experience that elevated the Chamber’s annual fundraiser through unified visuals across print and environmental touchpoints.

    • Strengthened the event’s overall tone and memorability by aligning design, theme, and audience expectations.

    • Received personal Thank You from the Pearce family.

Action Toolkits for Businesses & Individuals

I was tasked with creating “Action Toolkits” for both local SLO businesses and individuals to be dispersed in person and online. Two posters for each theme were required. There were various themes and content already set out, but the creative process was all up to me.

  • Because these toolkits were to be dispersed to local storefronts and businesses, I needed to create a universal look that would make people stop and read. As a poster, it was especially important for me to pay attention to point size of the type and readability. I also added links to the content for the online version. I decided to incorporate the Chamber’s branding guidelines for their economic vision “Imagine SLO” for pops of color and a checklist or timeline layout.

    • Created visually engaging, easy-to-digest posters and toolkit assets using the Chamber’s “Imagine SLO” branding to ensure consistency across physical and digital formats.

    • Designed layouts with clear hierarchies and high readability to draw attention and encourage use in storefronts and community spaces.

    • Increased visibility and usability of Chamber resources through clear, approachable layouts designed for real-world display.

    • Enabled consistent communication across storefronts and community spaces by providing adaptable, brand-aligned materials.

Social Media

Created content, responded to engagement, and tracked analytics for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Utilized a calendar to plan out content and post cross platform. Identified reach, likes, and comments as key performance indicators and tracked analytics to create better content.

    • Built a structured content calendar and consistently branded visual templates to support cross-platform posting across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

    • Created graphics and short-form videos optimized for each platform to increase engagement and communicate key messages effectively.

    • Established a consistent visual language across platforms, improving brand recognition and content cohesion.

    • Streamlined content creation with reusable templates, allowing for more efficient and timely social posting.

YouTube Videos

Filmed, edited, and produced Chamber videos from March 2019-August 2023.

Working Lunch Podcast & Conversation

During the early months of COVID, when many people were first adjusting to working from home, the Chamber wanted to start a lunch time conversation that encouraged community members to pick up takeout from a local restaurant. I was given creative freedom in the design but wanted the stay within the Chamber’s branding.

  • After going through many iterations, I decided on a laptop screen and takeout food container. Other iterations included a brown lunch bag, microphone, and phone screen. These final icons were very relevant for the time.

    • Designed a custom visual identity for the series featuring contemporary icons (e.g., laptop and take-out) that reflected the concept and resonated with community members.

    • Applied consistent branding across podcast artwork and promotional assets to build recognition and support listener engagement.

    • Built a recognizable visual identity that helped differentiate the podcast within the Chamber’s broader content offerings.

    • Supported audience engagement by pairing clear, modern visuals with accessible promotional assets.

COVID Resources

Throughout the beginning of the pandemic, many business turned to the Chamber for advice and resources to help them stay afloat and up to date. We needed a new webpage and graphics for all the resources.

  • I kept with the Chamber’s branding guidelines, but wanted to add more of a visual factor. I decided to create different icons for each category, which were then resized to be Instagram highlight covers as well.

    • Created a set of clear, branded informational graphics with category-specific icons to make essential pandemic resources easy to navigate.

    • Adapted the visuals for use as Instagram highlight covers to extend visibility and accessibility on social channels.

    • Improved accessibility of critical information through visually organized, easy-to-navigate resource graphics.

    • Extended the lifespan and reach of content by adapting designs for ongoing use across social platforms.

Logos & Icons

I was tasked with creating new icons, or logos, for various Chamber events and series. This included Good Morning SLO (a monthly speaker series), Take Out Tuesday, Wine Wednesday, and Small Business Saturday.

  • I decided to create circular logos for these series to also be used as Instagram highlight covers. For Good Morning SLO, I envisioned a sunrise above the well known mountains. For the daily series, I wanted a consistent design that was easily understood from the graphics. All of these logos would also later be used as the intro for their coinciding IGTV videos.

    • Designed distinct circular logo sets for recurring events and series (Good Morning SLO, Take Out Tuesday, Wine Wednesday, Small Business Saturday) with visual clarity and brand cohesiveness.

    • Developed simplified illustrations that translated seamlessly as social icons and intro graphics for IGTV videos.

    • Created flexible icon systems that strengthened visual consistency across recurring programs and campaigns.

    • Provided scalable assets that translated seamlessly across digital formats, from social posts to video content.
