Forage Magazine
Designed an editorial magazine titled Forage in May 2021 as part of a Magazine Design course. The course was taught virtually by Lorraine Donegan in the Graphic Communication Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
The contents of the magazine include a cover, masthead, masthead advertisement, table of contents, two department pages, a four-page feature spread, and a back cover advertisement. The magazine was designed using Adobe InDesign CC 2021 on a 2017 MacBook Pro and digitally published to Issuu. Continuing scrolling for a look at my design process.
Design Process
Before designing the magazine, I created a mood board with images, typography, colors, textures, and more that acted as inspiration. I was inspired to create a magazine called Forage that focused on wine and culture because of the beautiful wineries and landscape that I was surrounded by living on the California Central Coast for 4 years.
I learned the importance of file optimization from the beginning of the design process — and how combining design with proper file organization makes the process easier overall and results in a beautiful, curated product. I customized my Adobe InDesign workspace and researched design principles to adhere to industry standards.
Every spread underwent a rigorous critique process of at least three rounds. Going through critiques and natural evolution of the design process helped me learn more about what goes into creating an effective editorial while considering my target audience, design vision, and cohesive goal for my magazine.
The final product. Through this process I further developed my skills and knowledge of design principles, color, typography, and digital design.
